In fact, Year of Rat is always the first year in the Chinese Horoscope. Allen Pan and his students have been invited to give numerous performance in the next few weeks. It has been a long time since we last updated our website. The new parenthood has drained quite a bit of energy from the two new parents. Finally, we are getting used to the change in lifestyle, and we are ready to continue our journey on our guzheng music mission.

Yunqing Pan (Allen) is a renowned guzheng instructor and artist in Chicagoland. Musicpatio is a group of guzheng performers and Chinese music lovers dedicated to promote Chinese traditional music and Chinese culture.
Music has always been a great part of Chinese culture. We have been paving the way for people in the United States to learn the guzheng, to access Chinese traditional music resources, and to share their interests. Yunqing and his students participate and perform in various events nearly every month. Every August, we organize an annual concert for the general public to enjoy guzheng music and understand the Chinese music culture.

About Guzheng
Guzheng, a.k.a. Chinese Zither, is a plucked-string musical instrument with over 2500 years of history. Among all the traditional musical instruments, the guzheng has the most beautiful sounds and retains the highest popularity worldwide.
Throughout the history of Chinese culture, people from various nationalities and cultural backgrounds have developed many different styles of playing the guzheng and guzheng music. The modern Guzheng, Koto and Kayagum are developed from the traditional Chinese zheng, making the instrument an extremely important piece of Asian musical culture.
Every style or genre of guzheng music is tied to a regional people group. The northern style includes sub-styles such as Shandong, Henan, and Shaanxi; the southern style includes sub-styles, namely Canton, Chaozhou, Hakka, and Zhejiang.
The sound of the guzheng can express the scenic countryside, a cascading waterfall, breeze, rain, thunder. People also express their feelings through the guzheng.
